Bell Lawrie looking for fund managers

Bell Lawrie, the Scottish private client investment manager and stock broker is looking to add staff.

Bryan Johnston, marketing director at the Edinburgh office of the company, says the company wants to hire investment managers for its Scottish operation.

Bell Lawrie currently employs between 50 and 60 investment managers in Scotland, up from around 40 or 50 at the start of this year, says Johnston. He says the company is looking to selectively add both junior and senior staff: "We are growing organically and by acquisition."

Today it emerged that Bell Lawrie had purchased the private client arm of Aberdeen Asset Management, a move which The Scotsman reports will add a mere 12 staff to Bell Lawrie's payroll.

Johnston says there are no redundancies envisaged as a result of the acquisition.

Earlier this week, The Scotsman reported that brokers at Bell Lawrie's Edinburgh office were set to benefit from a 1.3m IT upgrade to provide a "converged next-generation wide area network (WAN)" to link the 35 UK offices of its parent company Brewin Dolphin. Johnston told eFinancialCareers it's too early to predict whether new jobs will be created by the programme.
