Thames River adds to fund of hedge funds team

Thames River Capital, the fund management firm set up in 1998, has hired Nic Karageorgis as an assistant fund manager. He is the company's fourth hire in two months.

Karageorgis joins from Spyre Asset Management, the fund of hedge funds arm of Abbey Group, the UK bank owned by Spain's Grupo Santander.

He will join the multi-manager hedge fund team in a new position, with responsibility for monitoring investment risk in the underlying funds in which Thames River invests.

In September Thames River appointed Mehrdad Noorani from UFJ International, the London-based investment banking arm of United Financial of Japan.

He joined as an investment manager in its global credit team, which trades in corporate securities and invests in the credit markets.

The firm also hired George Gay from investment boutique Morgan Pepper as an assistant fund manager for its property team, and Ben Joseph, a chartered accountant from Ernst & Young as an analyst in the emerging markets team.

At the start of this month Thames River added a new chief executive, appointing Glyn Jones to manage the firm.

Jones was previously London chief executive of Gartmore, the international asset management firm.

Thames River manages about $7.2bn (€6bn), including $500m in multi-manager hedge funds.
