City vacancies outnumber candidates

City of London job vacancies are rising at a faster rate than new candidates are coming onto the market.

The latest monthly Employment Monitor from recruitment firm Morgan McKinley shows the number of new City jobs coming onto the market rose more than 18% between September 2004 and September 2005. The number of new candidates rose 9% during the same period.

The report showed salaries rising by an average of 7% over the past twelve months, to 50,836. Senior salaries rose 9.2%, to 76,750.

Rob Thesiger, chief executive officer of Morgan McKinley, said pay is likely to continue rising in 2006 as bank employees seek to change jobs following bonus payouts.
