Job Wrap: Uva quits Morgan Stanley
Morgan Stanley announced Michael Uva had resigned. A senior client coverage banker, and one of the most senior Morgan Stanley bankers in Europe, Uva was said by colleagues to have been unhappy at being displaced as co-head of global investment banking by Walid Chammah. Chammah was made sole global head following the return of John Mack as chief executive of Morgan Stanley in July. Sources close to Morgan Stanley denied the departure was in any way acrimonious.
In other investment banking moves, Bear Stearns hired Knut Dahl from Putnam Lovell as managing director for its London investment banking team. Dahl will focus on the asset management sector with an emphasis on hedge funds.
ABN Amro hired Ingrid Hengster from Credit Suisse First Boston as country executive and head of global clients for Germany.
Societe Generaleappointed Geoffroy Dallemagne, previously a managing director in its strategic acquisition finance team in London, as deputy global head of utilities in its corporate and institutions division.
And Matthias Mosler, former chief executive of Merrill Lynch in Germany, resurfaced at Depfa Bank. Mosler will join the Depfa's executive committee with responsibility for product development.
Equities: JP Morgan hires three
JP Morgan hired three salespeople for its European equities business. Ed Allchin joined from CSFB as a salesman specializing in the banking sector. Michael De Nardo joined from Merrill Lynch as a pan-European equities sales trader. Andrew Holder joined from Societe Generale as a biotechnology specialist.
Standard & Poor's Equity Research hired four research analysts, based in London. Peter Clark joins from UBS to cover the European industrial and material sector. Steve Miller comes from a background in journalism as an editor and supervisory analyst. Christine Tiscareno has experience at Capital International and Goldman Sachs, and joins to cover Nordic oil services companies. Van der Elst joins to cover European technology, and has experience at Van Lanscot and ABN Amro.
Numis Corporation hired Andrew Stone from ABN Amro as an equity analyst on its energy research team.
Fixed income and commodities: Calyon hires Lefournier for Paris
Calyonhired Julien Lefournier from Royal Bank of Scotland as a managing director of the capital markets division responsible for French corporate debt bonds. Lefournier will be based in Paris.
BNP Paribas transferred Jean-Marc Bonnefous, global head of commodity derivatives from New York to London.
Asset Management and custody: Fund of hedge funds hires risk specialist
Optimal investment services, a fund of hedge funds owned by Grupo Santander, hired Rajiv Jaitly, head of operational risk management at GAM, as chief risk officer, based in London.
Lehman Brothers hired Matthias Grimm, a fund manager at Frankfurt-based Cominvest Asset Management.
AXA Investment Managers hired Emeric Challier from Fortis Investments as head of fixed income.
Morley Fund Management hired Robert Graham-Brown from Threadneedle as as a fund manager on its North American equities team.
Northern Trust hired three people for its EMEA asset servicing sales team. Ben Williams-Thomas joined from JP Morgan Investor Services as vice president responsible for custody sales to European pension funds. Marc Russell-Jones joins from Bank of New York as vice president responsible for sales to investment managers. Michael L. Slater joins from HSBC Institutional Fund Services as vice president, responsible for custody and asset administration sales to Middle East and North African markets.
There was a shake-up at the asset management arm of Barclays Capital. Blake Grossman, co-chief executive with Andrew Skirton, will become sole chief executive following Skirton's departure later this month. Thomas Kalaris, a former head of distribution and research, was appointed chief executive of Barclays Wealth Management.
Watson Wyatt hired Motlatsi Mutlanyane from Legend Capital for its investment strategy team.
Information providers: Tullett hires from Reuters
Tullett Prebon Information, the real-time information arm of Collins Stewart Tullett, hired Frank Desmond from Reuters as head of strategic sales for Europe and Asia.
