Job Wrap: Chambers quits Man in search of new opportunities

While most people were relaxing somewhere hot, the fund management sector was the venue for numerous hires and departures last week. Top of the bill was the revelation that the chief executive of Man Investments planned to quit at the end of August.

Chris Chambers, chief executive of the hedge fund business and a former banker at Credit Suisse First Boston, was said to be leaving in search of new opportunities. He will be replaced by John Morrison, head of marketing and client services.

Separately, senior consultants Peter Brackett and Debbie Clark left Watson Wyatt, taking the number of recent European departures to 14. Brackett is joining Morgan Stanley Investment Management as head of consultant relations. Clark joins Mercer as a senior equity researcher.

Threadneedle Investments hired Thomas Berglund from If Property Casualty Insurance as head of Nordic distribution. Berglund will be responsible for the developing the firm's business in Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland.

Pimco Europe hired Erik Keller from Robeco Asset Management in Rotterdam as vice president, business development.

Custodian BNP Paribas Securities Services hired Malcolm Pobjoy from technology firm Omgeo Ltd. as head of institutional investor sales in the UK.

Investment banking: Rosen replaces Bragiotti at Lazard

There were also a limited number of moves in investment banking. Most significantly, Jeffrey Rosen, chairman of Lazard's European investment banking committee, is set to be named chairman of Lazard's Italian operation. Rosen, a close associate of Lazard chairman and CEO Bruce Wasserstein, will replace Gerardo Braggiotti, who left last month.

Compass Partners, a global M&A boutique, hired Svante Adde, a former Lazard banker and Nordic specialist. Adde joins as a managing director and partner.

Fixed income: DrKW hires for new derivatives group

Dresdner Kleinwort Wasserstein hired Alberto Garcia Elias from JP Morgan for a new group selling structured credit and derivatives products to retail investors.

Emerging markets: Barclays Capital hires from DrKW

Barclays Capital hired Mahrat Djafarov from Dresdner Kleinwort Wasserstein to run its European emerging market corporate research team. Djafarov joined Barclays as a director.

IT: Sanzone joins Credit Suisse

Credit Suisse hired Tom Sanzone from Citigroup as its new chief information officer. Sanzone was CIO at Citigroup's global corporate and investment bank.

Private equity: Graphite hires two

Graphite Capital, a UK private equity firm, made two hires. David Williams, managing director of Sand Aire Private equity, joined as a partner. Mike Innes, investment director at Bank of Scotland, joins as an investment director on the transactions team.

London Metals Exchange

The London Metals Exchange (LME) hired Charles Stonehill, former head of global capital markets at Lazard, as an independent director on its board. Stonehill left Lazard in February 2004 after a 25-year career in banking. At the LME he replaces John Poulter, who recently retired.
