Job Wrap: Regulatory Hires as AIG and Merrill Poach from SEC

There was a spate of regulatory hiring last week as both American International Group (AIG) and Merrill Lynch, hired Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) heavyweights.

AIG hired Arthur Levitt, a former SEC chairman, as an advisor on director nominees and governance issues. The company is endeavoring to repair its reputation following investigations by state and federal regulators.

Merrill Lynch hired David L. Kornblau from the SEC as first vice president and head of regulatory affairs. Kornblau was the chief litigation counsel for the Securities and Exchange Commission's division of enforcement.

Additionally, Bank of America hired Regina Sullivan from Fidelity Investments as a compliance executive for global wealth and investment management.

Investment banking: HSBC hires four for healthcare

HSBC hired four health care bankers as part of the continued build up of its investment bank, two based in London and two based in New York. New York hires were Jane Pritchett Henderson, who joined from CIBC World Markets as a managing director covering biotechnology companies; and Katherine Wolf, who joined from Bear Stearns as a managing director covering medical device companies.

Banc of America Securities hired Robert Clymer, a former MD at CSFB, as managing director and head of specialty finance in its financial institutions group.

Fixed income and FX: Deutsche hires from JP Morgan and Morgan Stanley

Deutsche Bank Securities hired Dennis Knitowski from JP Morgan as a director in asset finance within the global markets division.

The German-based bank also hired Ramon Bauza from Morgan Stanley as a managing director and head of foreign exchange (FX) sales to U.S. corporates within its global markets division. Bauza was head of corporate sales at Morgan Stanley.

Jefferies and Company hired Howard S. Furman from First Albany Capital to lead its Boston fixed income business.

Cantor Fitzgerald hired Larry Haag from Raymond James as managing director and head of corporate bond sales.

Asset Management: Northern Trust hires Cole

Northern Trust hired John Cole from Lincoln Equity Management as head of active equity growth investments.

Calamos Asset Management, an Illinois-based fund manager, hired two executives to its senior management team. Scott Craven Jones joined from Northern Trust Global Investments as executive vice president and chief administrative officer. Robert Kunimura, joined from UBS Investment Bank as senior vice president and chief technology officer.

Swiss Re Capital Management and Advisory hired Andreas Gocksch from Merrill Lynch as head of market risk.
