Job Wrap: European banks clean up in credit
There was an outbreak of credit hiring last week, with Barclays Capital, Dresdner Kleinwort Wasserstein (DrKW) and Commerzbank all strengthening their teams.
Barclays Capital hired a credit researcher and two others for European high yield origination. Nesche Yazgan joined from Creditsights as a director in the European credit research team. Boris Okuliar and Tangwana Nelson joined from Bank of America as high yield originators. The bank also appointed Phil Kelleher, its former head of credit hedge fund, convertible bond and high-yield sales, as head of European high yield capital markets.
DrKW hired two for credit sales. Paul Thomas joins from Morgan Stanley as head of northern European credit sales. Colin Archibald joins from Citigroup as a director in UK credit sales.
Commerzbank added four bankers to its credit sales and trading business: Mark Rogers and Giles Armstrong from HVB Group; Bertrand Cavaignac from Bank of America; and Riccardo Galletto from DrKW.
Equities and investment banking: departures at Lazard and Lehman
Lazard admitted that Gerardo Braggiotti, one of its most important bankers, has handed in his resignation. Unless the bank can convince him otherwise, Braggiotti is set to leave in mid-July.
Lehman said Ben Maslen and Mark Nichols, analysts in its London industrial manufacturing team had left.
Fund management: Axa hires Levilain
Axa Investment Managers hired Jean-Philippe Levilain from BNP Paribas as senior portfolio manager based in Paris. It also hired Cynthia Voorhees from Principal Global Investors as head of credit research.
Scottish Widows Investment Partnership (SWIP) hired Paul Stratford from Ernst & Young as head of corporate development.
Schroders hired Neil Turner from Alecta Investment Management.
Insight Investment hired Tony Smedley from Fountain Capital Parnters as a senior director in its property division.
Deutsche Asset Management (DeAM) hired Timothy Sweeting from UBS O'Connor as head of distribution for Europe and the Middle East for DB Absolute Return Strategies, its global hedge fund management unit.
Morley Fund Management appointed Tim Barker as head of credit analysis. Barker joins from Lazard Asset Management, where he was senior analyst and strategist.
SVM Asset Management hired Melville Bucher from Baillie Gifford as head of institutional clients.
Mercer Investment Consulting hired Cara Williams from Merrill Lynch Investment Managers to join its London team and develop global strategy for its investment business.
Mark Kibblewhite, a senior executive at Barclays Capital, was appointed to replace Philip Monks as chief executive of Gerrard Investment Management, Barclays' private client wealth management arm. Kibblewhite resigned from Barclays in March but was persuaded to stay on.
Goldman Sachs hired Guy Freeman, a vice president in its European pensions and insurance group, to its specialist pensions team.
Brokers: King quits Tullett, six leave Euro Brokers
John King, head of government bonds at Collins Stewart Tullett, quit, apparently to work for a rival firm.
A team of six floating rate note traders resigned from Euro Brokers to join Compagnie Financiere Tradition. Euro brokers merged with BGC Partners a few weeks ago.
Corporate banking: RBS hires three
Royal Bank of Scotland hired three senior bankers to its London corporate loan team: Sean Malone from Deutsche Bank, who joined as a managing director focused on industrial companies; John Stafford from Citigroup, who joined a senior director focused on the Swiss and Benelux regions, and consumer companies; and Guy Wylie from JP Morgan, who joined as a senior director focused on the power and telecoms sectors.
Private equity: Duke Street hires Scott
Duke Street Capital appointed Bob Scott, chairman of Yell Group Plc, as an operating partner.
