Hawkpoint loses French bankers
Bertrand de St Rémy, who ran Hawkpoint's Paris office, is to leave the advisory boutique after more than four years. His departure comes just weeks after Louis d'Alençon, who was a member of the London-based financial intermediaries group, left to join Fox, Pitt Kelton, the Swiss Re subsidiary.
De St Rémy was reluctant to talk about his exit but Paul Baines, Hawkpoint's managing partner, confirmed de St Rémy's imminent departure. "He will be leaving shortly by mutual consent with our good wishes," said Baines, who pushed through a sharp increase in Hawkpoint's revenues last year.
De St Rémy was recruited by Richard Briance, who worked with him at UBS. Briance remains at Hawkpoint, though day-to-day control of the business passed to Baines, the former Charterhouse veteran, last year. When he joined Hawkpoint, de St Rémy, who had previously run investment banking at Crédit Agricole Indosuez, cited the excitement of joining a smaller entrepreneurial firm.
Baines said Hawkpoint had no plans to close or run down its Paris office. "I am a long way down the road to recruiting a managing director for France," he said.
Hawkpoint retains a German business, which is run from London by Henrik Schliemann.
