European Jobs roundup: Senior moves on the continent
Italy, France and Spain were the scene of senior job moves in Europe last week.
In Italy, BNP Paribas hired Giulio Codacci-Pisanelli from Merrill Lynch as head of debt capital markets for its Italian financial institutions group. SG Corporate and Investment Banking hired Mauro Brunelli as head of mergers and acquisitions. Brunelli joined from Banca Intesa, where he was head of M&A since 2001.
In France, SG shuffled senior members of its debt finance division and made changes to its European management committee. Jean-Luc Parer, former global head of debt capital markets became deputy head of debt finance. He will be replaced by Olivier Khayat, former head of debt capital markets. Grégoire Varenne, head of fixed income and derivatives, assumed extra responsibility for commodities and treasury business at SG in Europe and Asia. Both Varenne and Khayat will sit on the European management committee.
In Spain, Lehman Brothers recruited Luis de Guindos, a former Spanish Secretary of State for Economic Affairs, as a senior adviser.
In London, Barclays Capital hired a team of three European credit strategists from Lehman Brothers. Robert McAdie joins as head of global credit strategy and co-head of European credit research. Mahesh Bhimalingam and Puneet Sharma join as credit strategists.
Bank of America hired Alain Delelis from Vega Asset Management as head of global spot and emerging market trading and overall head of Europe Middle East and Africa foreign exchange.
Credit Suisse First Boston (CSFB) hired John Hannaford from HSBC for its UK corporate broking department.
Lazard and BNP Paribas hired for private equity and fixed income derivatives respectively, and indicated plans for further hires to come.
Lazard hired Michele Russo to its mid-market European private equity business. Russo joins from Doughty Hanson, where he was head of the Italian office. Lazard's mid-market group now has four partners, and plans to recruit another six executives over the next five months.
BNP hired for its derivatives structuring group. The French bank recruited Kara Lemont Sportelli from CIBC World Markets. She will be based in London. Stefano Paschetto, head of fixed income derivatives marketing for BNP Paribas in Europe, said additional hires are planned.
There were departures from Deutsche Asset Management and Insight Investments. Karl Sternberg left Deutsche Asset Management (DeAM) as its chief investment officer in Europe and Asia. Sternberg was on sick leave and was due to return in September, but DeAM said he will not return. Insight Investments lost David Somers, a senior client servicing manager. Somers is retiring.
State Street Global Markets hired Toby Goold from Morgan Stanley Asset Management as a transition manager, and Paul McGee from Barclays Global Investors as a new business development manager. McGee will work on currency overlay, commission recapture and transition management business.
Schroders hired Paul Taylor from Merrill Lynch Investment Managers to boost its property fund performance. Axa Investment Managers opened a new Zurich office and appointed Konstantin Nikiteas as its head. Nikiteas joined from Orbitex Finanz, where he was a general manager.
