European jobs roundup: ABN Amro, CSFB hire equities staff
There were plenty of equities hires in Europe in the past week.
ABN Amro hired three analysts from Commerzbank for its equities strategy and economics research team - Rolf Elgeti, Ian Richards and Lars Kreckel. ABN Amro has been shuffling and building its equities team since March when Alastair Barr and Hamish Dickson were appointed as co-heads of equities research and sales.
Credit Suisse First Boston (CSFB) hired Vladimir Bril as head of Russian equity operations. Brill, who will be based in Moscow, joins from Enskilda Securities in London, where he was a senior salesman. He was previously head of Russian equities at ABN Amro in Moscow.
Deutsche Bank hired Tim Maynard from Commerzbank Securities to work in its strategic equity transactions group. Maynard will cover products in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
State Street Global Markets said it was looking for equity and FX strategists as it prepared to expand its research unit globally. Russ Koesterich, chief UK equity strategist, said the firm may recruit three or four more for Boston and London.
There are currently five staff in Boston, eight in London, and one in Sydney. State Street also named Peter Baker, former head of its investment servicing business in Australia, as head of its London-based pension and investment servicing business.
Debt hires included Société Générale's appointment of Teimuraz Barbakadze as head of European cash CDOs (collateralised debt obligations). Barbakadze joins from Merrill Lynch.

Dresdner Kleinwort Wasserstein hired three people from SEB Merchant Bank as part of a move to combine its foreign exchange sales and trading businesses in London. The new hires are: Sultan Lone, a former director of the institutional sales group at SEB in London; Jason de Clerk, a foreign exchange salesman at SEB, and Jason Everitt, who covered foreign exchange trading at the bank.
Investment banking appointments included BNP Paribas' hiring of Richard Miles from Deutsche Bank as a utilities and business service sector banker in its UK coverage group.
In fund management, JP Morgan Fleming Asset Management appointed Lee Ann Thompson from Barclays Global Investors as client adviser in the UK institutional team.
Insight Investment appointed three people to its fixed income team. Craig Abouchar joins from ING Investment Managment as a high-yield credit fund manager; Aengus McMahon and Ashton Parker, join as senior credit analysts, from Henderson Global Investors and Danske Bank respectively.
Fund management departures included Markus Ruetimann, global head of technology and Portfolio Serivces at UBS Global Asset Management, who left after 25 years.
Investec Asset Management lost a top rated team of analysts, who are expected to start their own investment fund. Departures include: Michael Winner, Jeremy Rigg, Chris Carter and Nigel Dutson.
Nomura International appointed Colin Marshall, former chairman of British Airways as non-executive chairman from October 1.
Lloyd's of London, hired Luke Savage, head of equity control at Deutsche Bank, as its new finance director.
FIX Protocol, an organization which oversees the standard messaging service for the financial markets, appointed Eli Lederman, a managing director in the institutional equity division at Morgan Stanley as co-chair of its European regional committee.
Meanwhile 100 floor traders at the International Petroleum Exchange in London threatened to go on strike over the introduction of new electronic trading systems that could cost them their jobs.
