European jobs roundup: Equity derivatives teams expand
Equity derivatives took a high profile in recruitment in the past week, with Barclays Capital and Société Générale adding to their teams.
Société Générale hired six institutional sales people for its equity derivatives group, of whom four will be based in Europe and two in New York. The recruits in Europe are: Thomas Friedberger, Harvey White, Ana Guijarro Macias and Juan Manuel Gonzalez Mantero. Friedberger and Macias join from Goldman Sachs, White joins from UBS, and Mantero joins from Merrill Lynch.
Barclays Capital hired 15 people globally for its equity derivatives operations. Many will be based in Europe, as part of the bank's European investor solutions team, which helps develops products for institutional clients to distribute to a retail client base.
They include: Guido Contesso from Deutsche Bank, who will cover Italy; Mark Higgins and Xavier Garcia from Société Générale, covering Scandinavia and Iberia respectively; Uwe Becker and Thomas Fleck, from Crédit Lyonnais, covering Germany; John Elalouf, from Exane, covering France; and Colin Dickie from Keydata, covering the UK.
There was hiring in research as Fox-Pitt, Kelton moved to fill the gaps left by staff defections in April. The UK-based financial services boutique hired three banking analysts from Citigroup to its equity department. They were: Philippe Annamayer, Bruno Duarte and Dennis Ischenko. Last month Fox-Pitt, Kelton hired Mark Roberts from Lehman as head of equity sales.
Bridgewell Securities and Hawkpoint Partners, two other London corporate finance boutiques, were also hiring. Bridgewell appointed Rennie McConnochie, former head of equity research for Europe, the Middle East and Africa at Merrill Lynch, as chief executive of its equities business. Hawkpoint hired Michael Barnes, executive director of financial sponsored leverage at CIBC World Markets.
Barnes joins Hawkpoint as a director. His departure marked the second loss for CIBC in a month after Jonathan Rowland, managing director and head of the European financial sponsors group, joined Citigroup in May.
There were senior moves at Dresdner Kleinwort Wasserstein (DrKW). Following last month's departure of Stephen Howard and Hugh Sandeman, two high profile investment bankers, DrKW appointed Raimund Herden and David Hutchison as leaders of its M&A business.
Herden, based in Frankfurt has led corporate finance and advisory since joining the company in 2001. Hutchison is based in London, where he leads corporate broking in the UK, a position he will retain alongside his new role.
DrKW also hired Glenn Handley from Barclays Capital as a senior trader in its new credit financing and collateral trading team. Royal Bank of Scotland boosted its fixed income team with Steve Ashley from UBS. An RBS source said Ashley will oversee risk management in trading of European government swaps and bonds.
HSBC hired Chris Jones from Deutsche Bank for a new role as managing director and global head of euro medium notes and structured debt.
JP Morgan hired John Minderides from Investment Technology Group as head of its transition management business in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. In May, CSFB boosted its transition management team by recruiting Graham Dixon from Merrill Lynch Investment Managers.
