Which divisions of the bank hire graduates?

Front Office - Corporate and Leveraged Finance and Trading Room Sales and Trading.

How is the total intake of trainees typically split between each area (eg. 50% corporate finance, 20% sales and trading etc.)?

The training programme is specifically designed around a rotation system. Candidates are asked to specify their areas of interest at the time of application. A personalized rotation programme is built for them to ensure that they have the opportunity to try out their main areas of interest.

Are there any divisions which are likely to hire graduates in 2005, but which didn't hire graduates in 2004 (eg. HR)?

No

How much are graduates paid during training? Do you provide subsidized housing and other perks?

Graduates are paid a competitive salary. CIBC World Markets also offers mortgage subsidy, private health care, corporate gym membership, life assurance, season ticket loans, computer loans and professional study sponsorship.

How long does it take someone to complete your training programme?

10 months

Do you guarantee a job upon completion of the programme? Alternatively, are graduates hired on a renewable contract, eg for two years?

Graduates are employed from day one on a permanent contract.

Where does training take place?

Training takes place in London.

What kind of specialist training is offered for each division, e.g. trading, corporate finance, and so on?

Financial Mathematics, Fixed Income, Derivatives and Credit Derivatives, Accounts and Corporate Finance, Advanced Excel, VBA, PowerPoint, Bloomberg, Reuters, Intensive Credit Programme, Financial Modelling, various business presentations/case study days

How many hours a day does training last? Will trainees be expected to work or study after hours at home?

Training usually lasts from 9am-5pm and study/homework is required.

Can trainees move between departments?

Yes - that it the point of our programme - we recognize that not all graduates know exactly which area of banking is for them, so we give all of our graduates the opportunity to rotate through the different front office areas before making their decisions.

What if a graduate trainee wants to do an MBA or MSc in a few years' time? Might the bank provide sponsorship?
