US jobs roundup: Deutsche adds to teams

Deutsche Bank was among the banks hiring in the US last week. Piper Jaffray strengthened its research team.

In a reversal of the flow of banking staff to hedge funds, Deutsche recruited Zemach Sternberg to a new position as head of global quantitative trading in its global equity derivatives trading team. Sternberg, who will be based in New York, previously ran his own hedge fund, Amber Mountain.

Also in New York, Deutsche recruited Gabrielle Kivitz as an equity researcher covering the retail and apparel sector. Kivitz came from First Albany Capital.

Deutsche Bank Alex Brown, the US private client division of Deutsche Bank, said it is expanding its Palm Beach and Greenwich offices with the addition of six new advisors. Drew Mandala, Jason Abrahams and Scott Rhodenizer joined the Palm Beach office as managing directors serving Caribbean-based clients. All came from Wachovia Securities.

Richard Hassan and Ken Germann joined the Greenwich office as directors from Thomas Weisel and Partners. Matthew Portnoy joined from UBS as a vice president.

Piper Jaffray, the securities firm, hired two senior research analysts for its San Francisco and Minneapolis offices. In San Francisco, Les Santiago joined from UBS as a senior research analyst covering enterprise computing and storage companies. In Minneapolis, Michael Walkley joined from RBC Markets as a senior research analyst covering wireless communications equipment companies.

Brown Brothers Harriman hired Joyce Dardonis from State Street as head of securities lending sales for the Americas. Greenhill & Co, the investment bank, appointed Ulrika Ekman as managing director and general counsel. Based in New York, Ekman joined from Davis Polk & Wardwell, the law firm.
