Which divisions of the bank hire graduates?
In Corporate Banking and Financial Markets (CBFM), we hire graduates into Financial Markets Front Office (Sales, Trading, Structuring and Research), Financial Markets Global Operations, Financial Markets IT, Core Corporate Bank, Specialised Lending Services, Structured Finance, and Credit.
How is the intake of trainees typically split between each area (eg. 50% corporate finance, 20% sales and trading etc.)?
50% into Financial Markets areas, 50% into the remaining areas listed above.
How much are graduates paid during training? Do you provide free housing and other perks?

How long does it take someone to complete your training programme?
One year in the CBFM division.
Do you guarantee a job upon completion of the programme? Alternatively, are graduates hired on a renewable two year contract?
Trainees secure a role in their business at the end of the graduate programme dependent on their performance during the one-year training programme.

Our CBFM global training programme is based in London.
What kind of specialist training is offered for each division, e.g. trading, corporate finance, and so on?
We offer training positions throughout our CBFM division, with different streams of training dependent upon the business area that you are joining. Common elements, in addition to your tailored training, are an induction programme, mentoring programme, soft skills training, business awareness seminars, IT skills training and access to our graduate networking forum.

Financial Markets Front Office Programme:
3 months of up-front product and markets training
Training towards FSA Regulatory exams
Rotation programme across Financial Markets Front Office
Financial Markets Global Operations Programme:
2 weeks of up-front training
4 x 3 monthly rotations across the Operations business
Modular product training throughout the programme
Training towards Regulatory IAQ exams
Financial Markets Technology Programme:
2 weeks of up-front training
Rotation programme across the Technology business
Modular product training throughout the programme
Training towards a relevant professional qualification
Core Corporate Bank, Specialised Lending Services, Structured Finance and Credit:
2 weeks core training
Modular training throughout the year
Study towards a relevant professional qualification
After this programme there is potential to progress onto our internal fast-track development programme, lasting for 4 years and including placements across CBFM.
How many hours a day does training last? Will trainees be expected to work or study after hours at home?
Training hours reflect a standard day in the office. Sometimes prep work will need to be completed and some professional qualifications will demand study outside of normal working hours. A study leave policy is in place to support members of staff.
Can trainees move between departments during training?
For rotational programmes, yes. In Core Corporate Bank, Specialised Lending Services, Structured Finance and Credit, placements in different areas of the division are at the discretion of the line manager who ensures that placements are adding value to their trainee's development and to the business.
