JP Morgan - graduate training programme

The bank has supplied the following information:

Which divisions of the bank hire graduates?

JP Morgan currently recruits graduates into Investment Banking, Credit & Rate Markets, Equities, Investment Management, Treasury & Securities Services, Operations & Business Services and Technology.

How is the total intake of trainees typically split between each area (eg. 50% corporate finance, 20% sales and trading etc.)?

25% - Investment Banking

18% - Credit & Rate Markets

8% - Equities

3% - Treasury & Securities Services

3% - Investment Management

43% - Operations, Business Services and Technology

Are there any divisions which are likely to hire graduates in 2005, but which didn't hire graduates in 2004 (e.g. HR)?

No.

How much are graduates paid during training? Do you provide subsidised housing and other perks?

Packages are competitive with the market.

How long does it take someone to complete your training programme?

JP Morgan training programmes combine on-the-job learning with classroom instruction that is on a par with the world's finest business schools. Instructors include leading professors and specialist consultants as well as experienced professionals within the firm. Each business area has its own highly specific training structure and syllabus.

For example, graduates joining the front office disciplines start with eight weeks in New York. Often we rotate graduates into different business areas, broadening their vision and helping them to make an informed choice about the area in which they ultimately want to specialise.

Do you guarantee a job upon completion of the programme? Alternatively, are graduates hired on a renewable contract, e.g. for two years?

Most of our trainees go straight into positions following their initial 8-week training programme. It is very rare they are taken off the programme at this stage; however, this depends on their performance. If for example they cheat in exams or maybe continually fail, the business would look at their situation on a case-by-case basis to determine next steps.

Where does training take place?

Graduate training takes place in New York for those joining Investment Banking, Credit & Rate Markets, and Equities. Investment Management, Operations, Business Services and Technology hold their training programmes in London.

How should candidates apply?

Graduates should apply online at www.360career.com.

When should graduates apply?

Between 1 September and mid-November, 2004.
