Dresdner Kleinwort Wasserstein - graduate training programme

The bank has also supplied the following information:

Which divisions of the bank hire graduates?

We typically hire graduates into the following business areas: Corporate Finance & Advisory, Capital Markets (Sales, Trading, Research and Origination), Information Technology and Global Risk Management.

Are there any divisions which are likely to hire graduates in 2005, but which didn't hire graduates in 2004 (eg. HR)?

At this stage, we expect to hire graduates into the same business areas for 2005.

How much are graduates paid during training? Do you provide subsidized housing and other perks?

All graduates receive their full monthly salary and benefits package from day one, the commencement of the graduate training programme.

Where does training take place?

London.

How long does it take someone to complete your training programme?

The formal graduate training programme, which combines the core and track programmes, lasts approximately 8 weeks.

Do you guarantee a job upon completion of the programme? Alternatively, are graduates hired on a renewable contract, eg for two years?

All graduates join the business directly upon completion of the graduate training programme. We do not hire graduates on renewable contracts.

What kind of specialist training is offered for each division, e.g. trading, corporate finance, and so on?

The first modules cover:

1. Introduction to capital markets

2. Fundamentals of accounting

3. Financial analysis

4. Interpreting economic numbers

This enables our graduates to gain a vital overview of our business, its products, our services and our clients' expectations. Graduates will then continue training in subjects directly related to their particular business line and regulatory authority.

Capital Markets graduates will study company valuations, analysing case studies, handling business simulations, and creating reports. They will focus on key products and their practical applications in the market.

Corporate Finance & Advisory graduates will build and test cash-flow valuations, learning more about the specifics of company valuations and modelling, plus introductions to Equity Capital Markets (ECM) and Initial Public Offerings (IPOs).

Global Risk Management staff are trained in a wide range of risk management techniques including portfolio analysis, economic capital allocation, value-at-risk, sensitivity analysis, competitor benchmarking and credit rating and analysis, all within a highly interactive framework. There will also be three 6 month work placements in different areas of Global Risk Management.

Graduates specialising in Information Technology will attend intensive courses providing them with the technology skills required to carry out their specific role within IT and which are related directly to DrKW IT strategy, plus the team/customer skills necessary to ensure projects are completed to the very highest standards.

London Finance staff study over a three year period for the ACA professional qualification.

Operations staff look at transaction life cycles, risks and controls, problem solving, developing a client focus, managing meetings and working through a practical case study culminating in a presentation to senior management.

In addition to these tailored classroom modules, all client-facing staff are also supported through the mandatory examination to register them with the relevant regulatory authority.

How is the total intake of trainees typically split between each area (eg. 50% corporate finance, 20% sales and trading etc.)?

The split entirely depends on business need, however,

to use 2004 as an example:

Corporate finance & advisory - 30%

Capital markets - 45%

Global risk management - 5%

Information technology - 20%

How many hours a day does training last? Will trainees be expected to work or study after hours at home?

A typical training day starts at 9am and finishes at 5pm. Additional study may be required depending on the content of the course. Some additional weekend study is also required.

Can trainees move between departments?

This may be possible but will be subject to business agreement and demand.

What if a graduate trainee wants to do an MBA or MSc in a few years' time? Might the bank provide sponsorship?

Each request is considered on an individual basis and at the discretion of management.

How should candidates apply?

Through the web - www.careersatdrkw.com

When should they apply?

The deadline for applications for our 2005 Graduate Programme is 10th November 2004.
