ABN Amro - graduate training programme

In addition, the bank has supplied the following information:

Which divisions of the bank hire graduates?

Graduate opportunities are available in Corporate Finance, Financial Markets, Equities, Equity Capital Markets, Finance & Accounting, Client Relationship Management, Market Risk and Asset Management.

How much are graduates paid during training? Do you provide free housing and other perks?

Graduates joining the ABN Amro Graduate Development Programme are paid a competitive salary along with a flexible benefits package, which allows them to choose the benefits that apply directly to them. During the 6-week training at ABN Amro's Amsterdam Academy, accommodation is provided together with a per diem payment.

How long does it take someone to complete your training programme?

The Graduate Development Programme lasts from 6 months to two years dependent on the business unit. The programme usually starts at the beginning of September.

Where does training take place?

All trainees spend 6 weeks at the bank's Academy in Amsterdam for initial training. This is supplemented with on-the-job rotations predominantly in London.

Which subjects are covered by the basic training?

ABN AMRO's Graduate Development Programme is based on a combination of classroom training and job rotations as a method of learning and development. Candidates are asked to specify their areas of interest at the time of application, and the graduate development team works with them to create a tailored programme suited to their interests. All graduates are provided with comprehensive training covering technical training, products, and business skills, which equip them for their role.

Can trainees move between departments?

As graduates join ABN AMRO with a view to pursuing a career path in a particular business area, the objective of the development programme is to train you to take up a role in this Business Unit (BU). As a result, we encourage you to complete focused rotations within your chosen business area to ensure that you maximise the opportunity to learn. In certain cases the rotation schedule for a particular BU may involve periods in other BUs to increase business knowledge. Where there is a relevant business reason or a genuine interest on an individual's part to experience another BU, this will be given due consideration on a case by case basis.

What if a graduate trainee wants to do an MBA or MSc in a few years' time? Might the bank provide sponsorship?

The bank supports individuals who want to study further and will consider offering sponsorship on a case-by-case basis.

How is performance during training assessed? Is everyone offered a job?

During the Graduate Development Programme each graduate's performance is assessed rigorously. Regular feedback is provided and any development issues highlighted are handled by the Graduate Development Manager who works with each graduate to ensure they meet their personal objectives and secure a permanent role at the end of the programme.
