US jobs roundup: Traders in demand

Traders were flavour of the moment in the US in the past week.

Barclays Capital hired three new traders for its New York US dollar interest rate derivatives team. Mimi Duff joined from Goldman Sachs, as a director and trader in the global medium term interest rate swap business. Frederic Gourtay and Alex Pabon joined from BNP Paribas. Gourtay will be a director and trader; Pabon will trade interest rate swap products.

Deutsche Bank hired two derivatives traders from Goldman Sachs. Thomas Luke joined as a director overseeing trading in exotic interest rate structures, municipal derivatives and inflation derivatives. Geoffrey Verter joined as a vice president in options trading and risk management. Both will be based in New York.

Deutsche also hired for its Chicago office and New York-based asset management division. In Chicago, Tom Ernst, a principal in the equity research department of Thomas Weisel Partners, joined as a director responsible for equity research coverage of the application software sector.

In New York, Julian Evans, a senior mortgage-backed securities trader at Times Square Capital Management, joined Deutsche Asset Management as a director and sector manager in fixed income.

RBS Greenwich Capital, the Connecticut-based broker, recruited eight new people to trading, sales and strategy roles. Alec Crawford joined from Deutsche Bank as a managing director in the pass through trading group. Ken Hackel joined from Merrill Lynch as managing director and co-head of fixed income strategy.

Michelle Girard joined from Prudential Securities as a managing director and senior economist. Chris Miller and Jeff Mullins joined as managing directors of the asset-backed trading group. from GMAC/RFC Securities and Banc One Capital Markets respectively. Bill Jennings and Jeff Weaver joined as managing directors in the asset-and mortgage-backed sales group.

Most of the new hires will be located in the Connecticut head office. RBS Greenwich Capital also hired Sanford Sloane as a managing director in the liquid products sales group of its Chicago office.

Leerink Swann & Company, the healthcare investment bank, made two hires. John Sullivan joined from Stephens, the Arkansas investment bank, as a senior equity research analyst in life sciences. Gregory Coleman joined from Credit Suisse First Boston as managing director and head of the New York sales desk.

CSFB and Credit Suisse Asset Management (CSAM) were also hiring. CSFB hired Tim Chapin from JP Morgan as a director and senior coverage officer in foreign exchange hedge fund sales. CSAM appointed Kevin Barry as managing director and head of US mortgage backed sales in the firm's US fixed income group. Barry joined from TimesSquare Capital Management.
