US jobs roundup: Researchers in demand
Banks hired several senior research staff during the past week. There was hiring too in hot markets areas such as equity derivatives and high yield.
New York-based Optima Fund management appointed Robert Picard as head of research. Picard joins from Carlyle Group, where he built and managed the institutional hedge fund business. Optima also appointed Gregg Letizia from Deutsche Bank as a vice president in operational due diligence and Robert Zellner from Blackrock Financial Management as a senior analyst.
Putnam Investments hired Michael John Sager from JP Morgan Fleming for its currency group. Sager will lead currency research, as well as overseeing portfolio construction and develop the client base.
Criterion Research Group, an independent New York based research firm, announced the appointment of Monique Sinmao as a researcher covering the banking industry. Sinamao joined from Lehman Brothers, where she was a senior associate also covering banking stocks.
Banc of America Securities also hired for banking research. It announced the appointment of John McDonald and Kenneth Usdin as managing director and vice president respectively, covering the large- and mid-cap banks sectors from New York. Both joined from UBS Investment Research.
Jefferies & Company, the New York-based investment bank, announced the appointment of a senior equity research analyst in San Francisco. Katherine Egbert joined as a managing director covering the infrastructure software industry. Egbert came from C.E. Unterberg Towbin, a New York-based investment partnership for high technology companies.
Away from research, there was hiring in equity derivatives, high yield and asset-backed securities.
CSFB hired Stephen Roti for a new position as head of US corporate equity derivatives marketing. Roti left JPMorgan where he was a vice president heading corporate equity derivatives marketing.
Steve Seltzer, head of European high yield capital markets at CSFB, left to join Morgan Stanley in New York as global head of high yield. Seltzer had been in London since 2002.
ABN Amro hired Brad Dansker from JP Morgan for its asset-backed securities desk.
Blackstone, the US investment bank,. hired James Quella, a partner in CSFB's private equity division. Quella will join as a senior managing director. Last September Blackstone hired Jill Greenthal, one of CSFB's top media bankers.
