European jobs roundup: Derivatives teams recruit

There was plenty of recruitment for derivatives posts in Europe in the past week. Barclays Capital and UBS were at the centre of the activity.

Barclays Capital continued its expansion into equity derivatives with two appointments. Regis Loeb joined as head of European index options trading; Mohamed Yangui joined as equity derivatives structurer.

Loeb comes from Crédi Suisse First Boston where he was head of index option trading. Yangui joins from Credit Lyonnais Securities in London where he was head of new products development in the equity derivatives team.

Barclays said it was planning further hires in equity derivatives structuring, trading and marketing roles in the US and Asia over the coming months.

However, Barclays lost out elsewhere in its structured products franchise. UBS poached Dariush Mifendereski, head of European inflation derivatives at the investment banking division of the UK bank. Mifendereski will join UBS as executive director running the pan-European inflation trading operation.

UBS also raided Barclays for its hedge fund services team. It recruited Daniela DiMare from the Barclays Capital hedge fund coverage team. DiMare will occupy a similar role at UBS. During the past few months UBS has hired an account manager, a head of client services, and several marketing specialists for its hedge funds initiative.

UBS looked internally for its senior investment banking appointments. The Swiss firm named Jeff McDermot and Alex Wilmot-Sitwell co-heads of investment banking. McDermot, who is currently head of the industrial group in New York, will relocate to London. Wilmot-Sitwell is currently head of European client coverage

There were internally and externally sourced senior appointments elsewhere.

Glasgow Investment Managers appointed a new chief executive in Mike Balfour, former chief investment officer at Edinburgh Fund Managers, who joins next month. Balfour will replace David Williams, the founder of Glasgow Investment Managers, who is retiring later this year.

Société Générale appointed Alain Clot, chief executive of SG Canada, as chief executive of its asset management division. Senior management was also reshuffled at the bank's corporate and investment banking unit in Switzerland. Christian Gomez, global head of financial institutions, was appointed chief executive and country manager there.

Royal Bank of Scotland continued to build its debt business. Roland Hinterkoerner was hired from BNP Paribas to head its corporate bond origination team in Germany and Austria. This followed two appointments to the US debt team in March.

ESpeed, the automated bond dealing network, appointed a new head of European FX sales. Joanathan Wykes joined from Dresdner Kleinwort Wasserstein, where he was vice president for electronic foreign exchange institutional sales.
