US jobs round-up: Appointments in Latin America groups

Citigroup's reorganisation of its corporate and investment banking operations last month led to several appointments in the past week. Alberto Verme was made head of global investment banking, having been head of Citigroup's power, energy, and chemicals investment banking group.

Alan MacDonald, head of the global relationship bank, became chief operating officer of global banking.

Manuel Medina-Mora became chairman and chief executive officer of Citigroup's Latin America and Mexico group. Medina-Mora will keep his position as chief executive officer of Banamex, one of Mexico's largest corporate finance groups that Citigroup acquired in 2001.

Among other moves in the Latin America group, Guillermo Acedo was appointed regional head of the global consumer group. Gustavo Marin was named head of the global corporate and investment banking group, while John Gerspach was hired as chief administrative officer of the Latin American region.

Citigroup made Ali Hackett head of an expanded global finance sales and prime brokerage division. The move is part of the reorganization of the bank's securities finance and prime brokerage business, following the departure of Mike Hiard. Najib Lamhaouar will replace Hackett, who was formerly head of global futures.

In Citigroup's fixed income division, Richard Moore was made sole head of global rates and currencies.

Deutsche Bank made appointments in New York and San Francisco. In New York the bank promoted Piero Ghezzi head of Latin America Strategy. Ghezzi, currently head of sovereignty strategy, will analyse local debt markets in Latin America with a focus on foreign exchange, local bonds, and fixed income derivatives.

Phil Weingord became head of global markets North America and supervises the fixed income business. Weingord succeeds Charles von Arentschildt, who will continue to lead strategic initiatives within the business and will keep his responsibilities as president of Deutsche Bank Securities.

In San Francisco, Ferrell Daste left Goldman Sachs to join Deutsche's west coast prime brokerage service business as a director.

Morgan Stanley hired Sandra Yeager, associate director of global research at Alliance Capital Management. Yeager joined the bank as a managing director and head of global research.

At JP Morgan Steve Black, global head of equities, and Bill Winters, global head of credit and rate markets, were appointed co-chief executive officers of JP Morgan, replacing David Coulter, who becomes executive chairman with additional responsibility for the JP Morgan Partners private equity business.
