US jobs roundup: CSFB, Bear Stearns hire senior staff
Many banks made significant appointments in the US in the last few days,
on Wall Street and across the country.
CSFB made several hires including Mary Bernard as its new global
general counsel for investment banking. She leaves the law firm King &
Spalding, where she was a partner.
Paul Wirth left Deloitte & Touche to become global controller and
chief accounting officer at CSFB. Earlier Wirth was an assurance partner at
KPMG and was lead client service partner for Citigroup. Wirth replaces
David Fisher as global controller; Fisher become a senior advisor at CSFB.
At Bear Stearns in New York, Mark Lehman stepped down as general counsel
after 25 years with the bank. He will be replaced by Michael Solender, a
senior managing director.
Bear Stearns also hired Frank James as a senior managing director and branch
manager in its private client services division. James replaces Russel
Miron who will now focus on hedge funds in Bear Stearns' prime
brokerage group. James previously worked for Oppenheimer and Co.,
an investment firm, in San Francisco and at Merrill Lynch. He will be based
in Chicago.
Robert Luciano stepped down from the board of Merrill Lynch after 14 years
with the bank. Six months ago two of Luciano's allies on the board, Thomas Patrick and Arshad Zakaria. left the bank amid speculation about a power struggle with chief executive Stan O'Neal.
Joan Lewis has left Merrill Lynch, where she was a managing director,
marketing and communications for the securities service division, to become managing
director of marketing with the Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation.
Manus Costello has moved internally at Merrill to a new position in New York dealing with equities trading. He previously worked in London covering European stock exchanges.
Deutsche Asset Management hired Bruce Rodio as director, core plus product manager, based in Philadelphia. He joins from Morgan Stanley Investment Management, where he was a fixed income portfolio specialist. Earlier he was a generalist in the institutional fixed income sales group at CSFB.
Deutsche Bank's global equities division has expanded its strategic equity transaction group, hiring Daniel Kaypaghian and Alvin Shrago as managing directors.
Kaypaghian, formerly a managing director in Deutsche Bank's debt capital markets business, rejoins the bank after a two-year stint as a founding partner at OmniQuest Capital and will work in San Francisco. Shargo, who will be based in New York, moved from TD Securities where he was a managing director in the structured arbitrage group.
Goldman Sachs hired Alan Cohen as global head of compliance. Cohen had been a partner with O'Melveny & Myers, the law firm, since 1991.
Evan DiPaolo and Nicole Biernat joined Putnam Lovell NBF Securities to help expand Putnam's alternative investments group. Both are based in New York and will be responsible for marketing risk and position transparency services, fund administration, and for raising
capital for hedge fund managers.
The Bond Market Association appointed Ryan Marshall and Micha Green to its board of directors. Marshall, who was becomes vice chairman of the association's corporate credit market
division, is the global director of fixed income credit research at Morgan Stanley. Green joined the association in 1987 and for the past 10 years was executive vice president and head of the association's Washington office.
David Villa, an executive director at UBS Asset Management, was appointed chief investment officer of the State Board of Administration of Florida. As the new CIO he will oversee investment management for the $101 bn assets of the Florida Retirement System.
Satish Nandapurkar, managing director and head of products and services at the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, has been appointed chief executive officer of Eurex US. Nandapurker's track record includes being managing director and global head of exotic options at Swiss Bank Corporation from 1991 to 1996 as well as working at Bank of America as managing director and
global head of foreign exchange options from 1997 to 1999.
Robert Reynolds, co-head of the technology group of Dain Rauscher Wessels and subsequently RBC Capital Markets, was made a managing director and head of Adams, Harkness & Hill's west coast investment banking office, based in San Francisco.
JP Morgan has lost Will Brown to Barclays Capital, where he becomes an advisor to the
US economic research team. Brown, who was chief economist at JP Morgan, will be based in New York.
Lazard Asset Management hired Robert Rowland to manage a new European long/short vehicle strategy. Rowland previously worked at Soros Fund Management where he was a partner. Earlier he was a portfolio manager at Odey Asset Management.
Stanley Nabi, who was replaced last month by Stephen Kaszynski as head of
the value equity team at Credit Suisse Asset Management, was appointed to a
newly created vice chairman position at Silvercrest Asset Management
Group.
Nabi joins as a member of the firm's investment policy and management committees and will act as senior investment strategist.
