Deutsche names head of equity syndicate

He is leaving next month to spend time with his family in Brazil, where he will consider his long-term career plans.

Joe Manko, head of equity-linked origination at Deutsche, is replacing Dean. The bank is promoting Martin Fisch, a director in its equity-linked origination team to fill Manko's vacancy.

Dean and Manko began working together last year on Deutsche's block trade initiative in Europe to win more bought deals. The initiative will now be led globally by Manko and Keith Gersten, head of US equity syndicate in New York.

Dean joined Deutsche almost two years ago as head of London equity syndicate from Schroder Salomon Smith Barney, now Citigroup. He became European head of syndicate a year later when he replaced Jörg Illhardt, who left after 18 years to spend time with his family.

Deutsche moved from seventh place in 2001 to second last year in the league tables for bookrunners of European equity issues, excluding rights issues, according to Dealogic, the investment banking research firm. The bank is now 12th, although this rises to third if rights issues are included.

Manko said: "We are at the top of the league tables if you include rights issues, which have been the big ticket deals. We have missed some of the straight deals but I do not expect to see that continue."

In the equity-linked league tables, Deutsche was number one last year and is currently fourth.
