LSE keeps near-monopoly on news
In April 2002 the Regulated News Service (RNS), which is owned by the LSE, was joined by four new rival Primary Information Providers, or PIPs, the number later rising to six. The Financial Services Authority, which has responsibility for company listings, had insisted the market be opened to competition.
But the LSE has revealed that it still controls more than 80% of the regulatory news distribution market, leaving most of the new competition with tiny market shares.
