Commerz re-hires analysts

Among the hires made by Sunimal Goonetillake, head of research at the German investment bank, are two senior analysts from Citigroup.

Adam Collins will head the autos team after three years at Citigroup's research arm. Collins had rejoined the US bank in 2000 after stints at Merrill Lynch and Dresdner Kleinwort Benson, where he was head of pan-European auto research.

Glen Liddy has joined as head of the capital goods team from Citigroup, where his team ranked fourth in the 2002 Thomson Extel survey. Collins and Liddy have been reunited with former Citigroup colleague Simon Edrich, a top utilities analyst poached by the German bank in January. Edrich's team has hired Mark Henderson, who formerly worked at the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority in the United Arab Emirates.

Goonetillake has brought in Derek Terrington from Crédit Lyonnais as head of the media team. Terrington has worked for the investment management arm of French insurer Axa and UBS-owned fund manager Phillips & Drew. He was renowned for his public hostility towards Maxwell Communications Corporation, owned by the late Robert Maxwell.

Sheila Garrard, a banks analyst, has also joined Commerzbank. She was part of the Lehman Brothers team led by Mark Roberts, which ranked fourth in the 2002 Extel survey. The bank has expanded its technology coverage through the appointments of Ariel Bauer from Merrill Lynch and David Rees, a technology marketing analyst, from Deutsche Bank.
