Goldman bankers make newspaper rich list

The latest Mail on Sunday 'Rich Report' ranked five Goldman Sachs bankers among the wealthiest 300 of the UK's millionaires, each with fortunes of more than 100 million.

The five identified by the Mail were: Simon Robertson, president of Goldman Sachs Europe; David Blood, head of Goldman's asset management division; Michael Sherwood, European head of fixed income; and former partners Peter Sutherland and Gavyn Davies.

All had one thing in common: they worked for Goldman at the time of the flotation in 1999 and benefited from lucrative stock awards. As the bank's stock price has fallen over the past year, so has their wealth however.

Former partners at Goldman are relatively penniless alongside the heirs of banking dynasties. The Fleming family was valued at 1.07 billion; the Schroder family at 960 million and Sir Evelyn Rothschild at 350 million.

John Duffield, founder of Jupiter Asset Management and New Star Asset Management Group was absent from the ranking in the Mail on Sunday. The Sunday Times, which produces a rival 'rich list', last year put Duffield's wealth at 250 million.
