Prominent recruitment website halts operations

Sources close to Fincareer said it had recently been trying to raise venture capital funding. The firm's website was saying today that its services were 'currently not available' and noone was answering the phone at its offices in London and Zurich.

Simon Hughes, a headhunter at search firm Marshall Warburton, said: "We're disappointed that Fincareer appears to have withdrawn from the market. We're also concerned about the lack of information from them."

Shaun Springer, chief executive of Napier Scott, which has also used Fincareer's services, said: "We have no reason to think the firm is still operating." Another headhunter said he had been trying unsuccessfully to contact Fincareer since last week.

Fincareer operates by advertising financial services jobs on its site placed by headhunters. Visitors to the Reuters and Euromoney sites can also see Fincareer jobs, but the links have stopped functioning.

Euromoney, which owns part of Fincareer, could not immediately be reached for comment.

Fincareer is a competitor site of eFinancialCareers.com, which is owned by Financial News.
