Bankers score well in Fortune list of powerful women

Abigail Johnson, President of Fidelity, the fund management group, ranked 9th (being the daughter of the chairman may have helped) while Amy Brinkley, chief risk officer at Bank of America, was in 17th place.

Other banking luminaries included Dina Dublon, executive vice president and CFO of JP Morgan Chase, in 30th place.

Heidi Miller, who was CFO of Citigroup until she left in search of a dot com fortune in 2000, made it into 50th place in her new capacity as CFO at Bank One.

First place went to Carly Fiorina, chairman and CEO of Hewlett Packard.

American-born Robin Saunders, head of principal finance at WestLB and one of Europe's most powerful female bankers, said last week it was easier for women to do well on Wall Street than in the City of London.

Women who do reach senior positions may benefit from help behind the scenes. Fortune found that many of those on its list had 'stay at home husbands'.
