UKSIP networking could help fund managers find jobs
Rogers said he wanted the fund manager employees' body to strengthen its ties with alumni, as well as their contacts with each other. One benefit of this could be to help members find new jobs, he said.
"UKSIP needs to become more attractive to its members. A lot of people don't really know what it does," said Rogers, the former director of voting issues at the National Association of Pension Funds (NAPF).
He will take over from Sir David Dobson, who is retiring. Two years ago Sir David oversaw a controversial merger between The London Society of Investment Professionals (LSIP) and the Institute of Investment Management and Research (IIMR), of which UKSIP was the result.
The merger means that City of London fund management staff now take the internationally recognized Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) exams, instead of the IIMR exams that were traditionally taken in the UK.
All CFA and IIMR holders are eligible for membership of UKSIP. UKSIP is the UK arm of the US-based AIMR, which administers the CFA exam.
The CFA exam has been a big hit, with 14,000 people enrolled to take it in Europe this year, 37% up on last year. A third of them are in the UK.
