Top headhunter leaves Whitney Group

Sources close to him said his resignation followed differences of opinion about the firm's future direction.

Based in London, Campbell joined Whitney as managing director in 1991 and specialised in all areas of investment banking.

Simon Hall, managing director in London who joined from Harvey Nash in 1997 to focus on investment banking and private equity, is likely to be the next choice to head the London office.

Hall said Whitney plans to strengthen its retail financial services practice and to grow a real estate business, ancillary to investment banking. He has been involved in private equity and real estate searches.

Campbell could not be reached for comment. However sources in the industry suggested he was forced out partly because he was not a &quotteam player.&quot A source at the Whitney Group in London said: &quotOn a personal level he did not have the relationships he needed around here.&quot
