Mediocredito kicks off hiring spree
Arpe, one of the rising stars of Italian finance and former head of capital markets at Mediobanca, joined Banca di Roma as head of investment banking and deputy chief executive to Giorgio Brambilla in October last year.
At the time, Banca di Roma said one of his priorities was to boost the firm's investment banking activities significantly through the Mediocredito business, which it acquired in 2000.
The firm has swooped on Carmine Mancini, the former head of equities at Banca IMI, one of the largest domestic players in the Italian market, and appointed him co-head of its capital markets division. Mancini will work alongside Lorenzo Pecchi running the entire range of Mediocredito's debt and equities businesses.
In a rare hiring bout in the Italian market, Mediocredito has also hired Piergiorgio Peluso as head of corporate finance. Peluso has joined from Credit Suisse First Boston, one of the most active foreign firms in the Italian market.
It has also appointed Andrea Ottaviano from Merrill Lynch to run MCC Sofipa SGR, its private equity business.
One source at the bank said: 'These appointments give Medio-credito a strong new team to start building up our investment banking business. Gruppo Bancaroma has enormous resources, which were not being properly used in the past.'
