Worker protection

The move has caused concern among some businesses. The law will affect about 50% of all workers in the EU, including all businesses with at least 50 employees in one EU country, and covers all business units with at least 20 employees in one country.

The directive comes after recent occasions where workers at some firms found out about layoffs through newspapers.
