Tokyo staff consider suing ABN Amro
The employees, most of them Japanese, claim the bank's actions were against Japanese law, which requires staff cuts to be fair, rational and implemented only when absolutely necessary. They have formed a union to fight the move.
ABN Amro on Tuesday refused on comment on the specific legal issues.
The dispute is likely to be closely watched in Japan. Foreign banks have been wary of making Tokyo-based workers redundant because local labour laws offer high protection to staff.
