The common curse of creative CVs
The most common exaggerations are in relation to leisure pursuits: 47% of those who admitted to lying, did so in this area, while 28% gave false salary information and 19% fibbed about personal skills and qualities.
Some 18% of people said they thought it was often necessary to exaggerate on CVs in order to stand out. A fifth thought that omitting jobs that didn't work out did not constitute lying.
The findings come in a Mori survey conducted on behalf of CV Validation.com, a company that does pre-employment screening.
Most surprisingly of all, perhaps, only half of the organisations polled said they always or often conducted checks on applicants, the most common form being contacting referees or previous employers.
