Goldman Sachs appoints diversity chief
Laura Liswood, an adviser to the bank on diversity issues for the past three years, has been appointed to the post. Liswood is the author of Women World Leaders and is on the regional board of the United Negro College Fund in the United States.
John Thain, co-president of Goldman, said the appointment would help the bank deepen its commitment to diversity among its staff.
Thain said: "In increasingly global markets, our clients are more diverse than ever and the competition for talent is intense. We see diversity as a fundamental business imperative."
Goldman Sachs is not alone in its sensitivity about having a white, male image. Last month in London, for example, about 10 investment banks took part in a programme to encourage more ethnic minority students to apply for jobs.
