CFA exam takes over from IIMR

Well ahead of the cut-off point, there are already many more UK candidates taking the CFA exam than the IIMR qualification.

Figures from the Association for Investment Management and Research (AIMR), which administers the CFA, indicate that about 2,500 candidates took the exams in 2000. This figure shows an increase of 43% on the previous year. The number of candidates taking the IIMR in 2000 was only 525.

The global aggregate pass rate for the CFA exams was 55%. This compares unfavourably with a UK pass rate of more than 70% for the IIMR.

However, students in the UK do not need to worry.

David Dobson at the UK Society of Investment Professionals says that the UK's CFA pass rate is considerably higher than the global rate.
