Bankers don't bank their bonuses

Three quarters of financial services employees said in a survey that they spend rather than save their bonuses.

The most popular buy is a new home or home improvments, cited by 27% of people. Second on the list is holidays (23%). Only 3% plan to buy a new car, but two-thirds said they would make a donation to charity.

One third of people said a lower than expected bonus would cause them to look for another job. More than a quarter (27%) said it would make them work harder, while nearly a fifth (19%) said they would complain. Eleven per cent of people say they would &quotgrin and bear it&quot.

The survey was conducted by financial recruitment company CitiPeople and received 550 responses worldwide, mostly from the City of London.
