Boardroom pay curbs to be delayed until 2002
Stephen Byers, the trade and industry secretary, was due to announce his plans to curb boardroom excesses before the summer break, but the timetable has continued to slip amid evidence that he has cooled on all but the most limited proposals.
The news will be welcomed by leading executives and company directors and the move reflects in part the government's desire not to alienate industry leaders so close to a general election.
