FTSE 100 chief executive salaries up 13.9%

The latest figures from New Bridge Street Consultants, show that the average base salary for a chief executive is now 482,542. The analysis was based on annual reports and accounts of those companies that report at the end of the financial year (31 March 2000).

The results also show that finance directors' average base salaries increased 13.7% to 283,918, while other directors saw an average salary increase of 11.4% to 280,285.

These increases were applied at a time when retail price inflation peaked at 2.6% in March 2000 and the growth in average earnings for the whole economy peaked at 6.5% in January 2000.
