Michael O'Neill to head Barclays

O'Neill is currently president of principal investing and wealth management at Bank Of America. He is also a member of the policy committee responsible for the integration planning and execution of the BankAmerica-NationsBank merger. Prior to the merger, he was chief financial officer of BankAmerica. Edward Carter, president and chief executive officer of Deutsche Bank Securities and head of investment banking for the Americas, has resigned. The move follows the appointment of Yves de Balmann and Mayo Shattuck as co-heads of investment banking at Deutsche Bank, after the merger with Bankers Trust was announced last November. Kazuo Otaka has been appointed president and joint chief executive of Daiwa Europe. He was formerly head of foreign products at Daiwa Securities in Tokyo. Sir John Riddle, deputy chairman and senior independent non-executive director of Northern Rock, will become chairman after Robert Dickinson stands down at the end of the year. Nichola Pease, chief executive of investment managers JO Hambro, will also replace John Fenwick as a non-executive director.
