About the Role
A growing employment litigation practice is seeking an Employment Litigation Associate to join its Orange County team. This opportunity is ideal for a California-barred attorney looking to gain hands-on litigation experience while working closely with experienced employment attorneys on a broad range of workplace disputes.
The team represents employers in employment-related litigation and counseling matters, including claims involving discrimination, harassment, retaliation, wrongful termination, wage and hour violations, PAGA actions, and other workplace disputes. Associates will have the opportunity to take ownership of substantive work, interact directly with clients, and develop litigation skills in a collaborative and supportive environment.
This role is best suited for attorneys who enjoy litigation, are eager to continue building courtroom and deposition experience, and want a clear path for professional growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the management of employment litigation matters from inception through resolution
- Draft and respond to pleadings, motions, discovery requests, and other litigation-related filings
- Conduct legal research and prepare memoranda on employment law issues
- Participate in written discovery, document review, and case investigations
- Prepare for and attend depositions, mediations, hearings, and settlement conferences
- Support trial preparation, including witness preparation, exhibit management, and motion practice
- Communicate with clients regarding litigation strategy, case updates, and risk assessment
- Collaborate with attorneys and support staff to efficiently manage case deadlines and client expectations
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an ABA-accredited law school
- Active California Bar admission in good standing
- JD obtained between 2021 and 2024 preferred
- 1-5 years of post-bar litigation experience, with 2-4 years preferred
- Experience handling employment litigation matters strongly preferred
- Experience with one or more of the following is highly desirable:
- Wage and hour litigation
- PAGA actions
- FEHA claims
- Discrimination, harassment, retaliation, or wrongful termination matters
- Single-plaintiff or multi-plaintiff employment disputes
- Experience with motion practice, written discovery, depositions, mediation, and trial preparation preferred
- Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills
- Excellent organizational and communication abilities
- Ability to manage multiple assignments in a fast-paced environment
Preferred Background
- Currently practicing at a law firm
- Experience gained in a boutique or mid-sized firm environment
- Resides in Orange County or within a reasonable commuting distance of Irvine
- Demonstrated interest in employment litigation and long-term career growth within the practice area
