Director of Accounting - Real Estate Responsibilities

Lead all day-to-day accounting and fund finance activities across a growing real estate investment platform
Oversee financial reporting, general ledger maintenance, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and cash management functions
Direct monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes while ensuring timely and accurate reporting
Manage accounting and reporting for investment vehicles, operating entities, and real estate assets
Prepare and review consolidated financial statements and investor reporting packages
Partner with senior leadership to evaluate financial performance, operational trends, and portfolio metrics
Develop and enhance accounting processes, controls, and reporting procedures to support continued growth
Coordinate annual audits and serve as a primary liaison with external auditors and tax professionals
Monitor compliance with accounting policies, regulatory requirements, and internal control standards
Support budgeting, forecasting, treasury activities, and cash flow planning across the organization
Provide financial analysis and recommendations to improve efficiency, profitability, and investment performance
Mentor and develop accounting staff while helping build a scalable finance infrastructure

Director of Accounting - Real Estate Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA strongly preferred)
8+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience
Extensive Real Estate accounting experience is required, ideally within private equity real estate, REITs, self-storage, commercial real estate, or real estate investment platforms
Strong background in fund accounting, entity accounting, and consolidated financial reporting
Experience overseeing month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes
Deep understanding of GAAP and real estate accounting principles
Prior experience managing external audits, tax advisors, and investor reporting processes
Experience leading and developing accounting teams
Strong knowledge of ERP systems; Yardi experience highly preferred
Proven ability to oversee multiple entities, investments, and complex ownership structures
Experience working closely with executive leadership on strategic initiatives, budgeting, forecasting, and operational performance
Strong analytical, communication, and project management skills
