A hot West Coast banker quit finance for a corporate

UBS has lost the investment banker who was running its advisory business on the West Coast and in the Central region.

John Golden, a managing director at UBS,  has left to run a Dallas, Texas-based energy company.

Golden joined Midland Basin Partners (MBP), an energy infrastructure company in Texas, last month. The company provides water supply to energy producers in the Permian Basin through a network of wells, pipelines, and storage facilities.

A banker for over two decades, Golden started his career as a trader and analyst at Herzog Heine Geduld in 2000. He joined UBS in 2013 after switching out of equity sales at RBC Capital Markets. Before RBC Capital, he spent almost a decade at Merrill Lynch.

Golden's jump to a corporate side comes at a time when several major investment banks including Goldman Sachs and Bank of America are expanding their businesses across the U.S., making someone with Golden's experience hypothetically highly desirable. Goldman Sachs, for example, has been building new investment banking businesses in Atlanta, Dallas, Seattle, and Toronto.
