Barclays has just poached this senior Deutsche Bank technologist

The churn at the top of Deutsche Bank's technology functions continues. The European head of a function responsible for funky innovations like thumbprint technology and facial recognition has just jumped to Barclays.

Nick Doddy, the European managing director of group technology and operation (GTO) strategy and innovation team at Deutsche Bank has just joined Barclays as a managing director within its business architecture division. Doddy was responsible for innovation projects that were carried out within Deutsche's 'labs' - centres in Berlin, New York, London and Silicon Valley to help it keep up with rapidly developing, or increasingly important, technology like artificial intelligence, robotics, cloud technology and cyber-security.

One such innovation was heading up a retail baking security project that would allow customers to log on using facial recognition on their mobile phones.

Doddy's held his latest role at Deutsche from July 2014, moving across from his role as global head of foreign exchange and money markets operations. His new role marks a return to Barclays' investment bank - he previously worked in senior technology and operations jobs from 2007 until he joined Deutsche Bank in 2010. He has also worked fro J.P. Morgan and spent three years running his own software firm from 2003-2007.

His departure from Deutsche Bank's digital team is the latest in a series of recent exits. Dean Mazboudi, co-founder of the bank's innovation lab in New York, left for Bank of America in June. The departures follow the appointment of Elly Hardwick as head of innovation in December last year. She previously spent four years as CEO of fintech firm Credit Benchmark.

Meanwhile, Henry Ritchotte, Deutsche Bank’s chief digital officer left last year after 22 years at the bank in December and is currently seeding fintech start-ups.

Barclays has also had its fair share of change with the senior ranks of its technology functions. Mark Ashton-Rigby, the former CIO of J.P. Morgan's investment bank, joined Barclays as group chief information officer in August last year. Ian Penny, its chief technology officer, joined insurer Hiscox in April as chief information officer.
