Top Credit Suisse algo trader quits to take up rowing

One of Credit Suisse's most senior "low touch" electronic traders has left the bank and is spending his time rowing.

Tom Middleton, a former Credit Suisse director on the delta 1 equity derivatives desk left the bank in October and is now a "full time athlete" at Molesey Boat Club according to his public profile. A Cambridge PhD, Middleton had been at Credit Suisse since 2003 and was previously head of the bank's algorithmic product in EMEA and head of EMEA statistical arbitrage. He also spent five years in the late 1990s as a member of the British Lightweight Rowing team.

Rowing may not be Middleton's ultimate destination. He alludes to the fact that it is merely a way of spending his gardening leave.

Credit Suisse's equities business had a particularly bad third quarter compared to rival banks. It's not clear why Middleton is leaving this close to bonus time - unless he has another job to go to.
