GMAC to Hire Finance Pros in Charlotte
GMAC Financial Services plans to add more than 200 jobs in Charlotte, N.C. The new slots are expected to include finance, risk management, accounting and corporate administration, at salaries averaging $96,600 a year.
Under terms of a state incentive deal, GMAC promised to hire at least 130 people this year and add at least 200 by the end of 2010, the Associated Press reports. It's not clear how many of those positions will be moved out of GMAC's Detroit headquarters or its other major centers in New York, Fort Washington, Pa., and Winston-Salem, N.C.
The expansion in Charlotte follows GMAC's hiring of some top executives from Charlotte-based Bank of America in the past two years. Alvaro de Molina, GMAC's chief executive, joined from B of A in 2007. This month, GMAC hired a corporate treasurer from B of A.
The auto and mortgage lender stressed that its headquarters will remain in Detroit. The company currently has about 265 employees in Charlotte. Its company-wide work force shrank by 15 percent last year, ending with 22,700 employees worldwide.
GMAC became a bank holding company in December and received $5 billion in bailout aid from the Treasury Department. General Motors Corp. owns 60 percent of GMAC.
The job development grant from the state of North Carolina could be worth up to $4.5 million to GMAC over nine years, the AP story says.
