Job Description

Crawford & Company is expanding its temporary and seasonal Catastrophe Roster with qualified adjusters who can support weather-related and non-weather-related losses from the field, a desk, an office, or a remote location. Under minimal to intermediate direction, adjusters determine coverage, investigate and evaluate losses, negotiate settlements, and maintain complete, accurate, high-quality claim files. Opportunities may include residential property, commercial property, flood, auto physical damage, auto liability, general liability, casualty, bodily injury, workers' compensation, litigation, business interruption, product recall, environmental, contents, agriculture, marine, call center/FNOL, a processor, and quality review assignments.

Position Overview

  • Applications are currently being accepted.

  • Employment status: This is a W-2 employment opportunity, not a 1099 opportunity.

  • Roster status: Joining the Catastrophe Roster does not create a full-time staff position or guarantee work, hours, assignment duration, or deployment frequency.

  • Assignment types: Temporary or seasonal opportunities may be offered throughout the United States and international work in field, desk, remote, hybrid, office-based, call center, processor, or file-review roles.

  • Licensing: Independent adjuster assignments generally require an active National Producer Number (NPN) and a resident or designated home state adjuster license. These credentials are not required for processor or call center roles that do not involve licensed adjusting.

  • Experience: Both experienced adjusters and qualified candidates who are new to the industry will be considered. Additional in-house training may be required.

  • Relocation: Permanent relocation is not required.

Responsibilities

  • Review claim forms, policies, endorsements, client instructions, and available records to determine coverage.

  • Communicate the claim process clearly and professionally by telephone and in writing.

  • Use current technology and approved estimating or claims systems to investigate losses, evaluate coverage, establish reserves, analyze documentation, and estimate damages.

  • Prepare timely, accurate reports that meet client, company, and applicable regulatory requirements.

  • Resolve claims within assigned authority by evaluating liability and damages, negotiating settlements, issuing or recommending payments, completing required filings, addressing salvage, and pursuing subrogation when appropriate.

  • Meet applicable service-level agreements, production expectations, quality standards, and client or company performance metrics.

  • Manage the assigned caseload efficiently and responsibly while controlling claim costs.

  • Maintain complete, accurate, and well-documented claim files.

  • Comply with federal and state regulations, client requirements, company policies, and professional standards.

  • Maintain required adjuster licenses, certifications, and technical knowledge through continuing education.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Relevant background in insurance adjusting, construction, claims, customer service, or another field that demonstrates the ability and commitment to learn the industry.

  • Active NPN and resident or designated home state adjuster license for assignments that require licensed adjusting.

  • Strong written and verbal communication, organization, interpersonal, technical, and computer skills.

  • Professional, dependable, responsive, service-oriented, adaptable, and receptive to coaching and change.

  • Ability to travel on short notice and remain on assignment for extended or indefinite periods, depending on client and event needs.

  • Willingness to work long hours and prolonged schedules away from home during significant catastrophe events.

  • Responsibility for personal travel and living expenses while on assignment unless otherwise stated in the assignment terms.

  • Access to assignment-required equipment, which may include a ladder, laptop, mobile phone, and other field or technical tools.

  • Remote desk assignments: Must have a workspace free from distractions; high-speed internet; a compatible computer; a webcam, headset, keyboard, and mouse; and a two-screen setup.

  • Dependable vehicle and proof of automobile insurance with required liability limits of $100,000/$300,000 when driving is required.

  • Ability to climb and lift up to 40 pounds when required for the assignment.

  • Ability to satisfy applicable pre-employment requirements, which may include a drug screen, criminal background check, and motor vehicle record review.

  • Knowledge of Xactimate/Xactware and Cotality/Symbility is strongly preferred for property assignments.

  • Knowledge of Mitchell Cloud Estimating, CCC ONE, Web-Est, Auto Repair Invoice, Scott Systems MaxxTraxx, or other relevant industry software is preferred for auto assignments.

  • Active NFIP authorization, current Flood Control Number, relevant carrier certifications, industry designations, or specialty credentials are preferred for assignments requiring those qualifications.

  • Bilingual capabilities are a plus.

Applicants must provide a current résumé that accurately reflects the licenses, certifications, claim disciplines, software proficiency, deployments, vendors or clients worked for, and years of experience reported in the application.
