Our client is seeking a Senior Reinsurance Accountant to support treaty accounting, financial reporting, settlements, and reconciliations across a growing specialty insurance platform. This role offers exposure to underwriting, claims, actuarial, and finance teams while driving accurate reporting, operational efficiency, and process improvements. Ideal candidates will bring strong reinsurance accounting experience and a hands-on, analytical approach.

Senior Reinsurance Accountant

Our client is seeking a Senior Reinsurance Accountant to take ownership of key reinsurance accounting and reporting activities across a diverse portfolio of business. This person will serve as a critical liaison between finance, underwriting, claims, brokers, and capacity providers, ensuring financial information is accurate, timely, and aligned with contractual obligations.

The ideal candidate will combine strong technical accounting skills with a deep understanding of reinsurance operations and a desire to improve processes in a fast-paced environment.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Review reinsurance data received from brokers and partners, ensuring accuracy and consistency across accounting records and internal systems.
  • Support monthly and quarterly close activities through reconciliations, journal entries, financial analysis, and balance sheet reviews.
  • Monitor outstanding balances and drive timely resolution of receivables, payables, and cash discrepancies.
  • Partner with external brokers and reinsurers to resolve settlement issues and obtain supporting documentation.
  • Analyze treaty activity and investigate unusual movements, providing clear explanations to leadership and business partners.
  • Support cash management activities related to reinsurance programs, including collections, payments, and account clearing.
  • Maintain organized treaty documentation and ensure financial transactions are recorded in accordance with contract terms.
  • Assist with audit requests, reporting requirements, and ad hoc financial analyses.
  • Collaborate with underwriting, claims, finance, and operational teams to strengthen reporting accuracy and improve workflows.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline manual processes, enhance controls, and support ongoing system improvements.

What They're Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
  • 5+ years of reinsurance accounting or related insurance finance experience.
  • Background within a carrier, MGA, specialty insurer, or reinsurer environment.
  • Understanding of common reinsurance structures, including quota share, excess of loss, and facultative arrangements.
  • Experience with reconciliations, settlements, broker reporting, recoverables, and financial close processes.
  • Strong Excel and analytical skills with the ability to work through large volumes of data.
  • Effective communicator who can work across multiple departments and external stakeholders.
  • Detail-oriented, proactive, and comfortable taking ownership of complex accounting issues.

Why This Opportunity?

  • High-impact position with visibility across both finance and business operations.
  • Opportunity to work closely with senior leadership and key external partners.
  • Exposure to complex reinsurance programs and strategic initiatives.
  • Growing organization with a strong collaborative culture and long-term career growth potential.
