This is a hybrid role for an Optical Engineer experienced with Ciena Optical products. Are you familiar with RLS 6500 , waveserver ? If so we are hiring for a start in October :
We are looking for an Optical Resident Engineer for Vodafone Newbury, UK . You will be responsible for delivering advanced post-sales technical support across our clients' optical transport and network management product lines, including 6500, RLS, Waveserver, and MCP . In this role, you will:

We are looking for an Optical Resident Engineer for Vodafone Newbury, UK . You will be responsible for delivering advanced post-sales technical support across our clients' optical transport and network management product lines, including 6500, RLS, Waveserver, and MCP . In this role, you will:
- Act as the primary technical contact, providing on-site and remote support for the client's products
- Troubleshoot complex system-level issues and recommend network solutions.
- Create and review customer-facing documentation (e.g., MOPs, RCAs) and perform network audits and health checks.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with development, service, and sales teams to resolve incidents and ensure customer satisfaction.
- Travel occasionally based on customer requirements (no on-call duty in this assignment; possible in future roles).
The Must Haves:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Experience: 2-5 years in technical support, preferably with a telecom equipment vendor.
- Technical Knowledge:
- Expertise in DWDM, ROADM, OTN, Broadband, Photonics, and switching/transport technologies.
- Hands-on experience with Ciena platforms (6500, RLS, Waveserver) and network management solutions.
- Strong knowledge of amplifiers, CDC configurations, and associated modules.
- Familiarity with optical test equipment and network performance tools.
- Proficiency in troubleshooting and debugging complex fiber optic system-level issues.
- Understanding of data communications protocols and interoperability between products.
- Tools & Automation: Experience writing Python scripts or similar for automation and workflow enhancements.
Assets:
- Strong documentation skills - able to produce RCAs, MOPs, and health checks.
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
- Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and solve critical network issues.
- Team player who thrives in collaborative, knowledge-sharing environments.
- Fast, accurate judgment and sound decision-making in complex situations.
- Adaptability to evolving technologies and shifting customer needs.
