Role overview:

In conjunction with appropriate Al-Futtaim Group functions (Finance, Legal, Tax, EIT), the GM is responsible for accounting, reporting, tax and compliance across the Real Estate Group, including: Periodic reporting for management, statutory and tax purposes (including both asset class and legal group financial consolidations) Providing guidance and assurance on accounting standard application, as well as implementing appropriate accounting standards and processes to ensure strong accounting and reporting. Overseeing tax planning, tax compliance and tax accounting Coordinating internal and external audits. Supporting the development and implementation of efficient finance shared services strategies


Financial reporting

  • Establishment of a clear periodic reporting strategy and calendar across the Real Estate Group, in alignment with requirements of the overall Group and external stakeholders
  • Overseeing the design, development and implementation of best-practice financial reporting tools (in conjunction with Business Excellence team and Group Finance)
  • Preparation and review of all periodic consolidation and reporting, for entities, legal group structures and asset classes
  • In conjunction with Group Finance, providing internal expert advice on accounting standard application, assess impact of changes as well as implementing appropriate accounting standards and processes for all geographies
  • Understand the impact of new business activity and provide advice on their accounting treatment.
  • Work with the IT team and Group Finance to ensure that systems are configured to enable accounting requirements and changes to accounting standards to be met
  • Actively develop and support internal accounting and reporting capability across all regions 

Financial controls

  • In conjunction with Group functions (Finance, Audit, Tax, Legal), aligning and implementing appropriate group-wide financial controls, including best-practice policies/procedures and role segregation.
  • Coordinating reviews to ensure that policies/procedures are appropriately applied and consistently followed.
  • Drive balance sheet management strategies across the Real Estate Group, including improved working capital utilization and tax asset/liability management 

Tax planning and compliance

  • In conjunction with Group Tax, coordinate expert tax planning and strategy across all geographies, including review of tax exposures in all geographies
  • Drive overall tax compliance work, including tax accounting, review of returns, management of reporting calendars and dealing with follow-up administration. 
  • In conjunction with Group Tax, actively develop and support internal tax capability across all regions
  • Ensure tax exposures are adequately provided for, and tax assets are managed proactively 

Audit management

  • Build strategic relationships with external and internal audit service providers (in conjunction with Group Finance)
  • Manage and coordinate all audits (statutory, internal tax), including resolution of queries and audit points

Finance shared services

  • In conjunction with relevant Group functions, actively identify, promote and implement Finance Shared Services Strategies

• Finance related degree preferred
• Professional accounting qualification (CA, CPA, CIMA or similar)
• Current technical knowledge of relevant accounting standards and tax legislation

Desired Knowledge and Experience: 
• 15-20 years’ experience in Financial Management, tax and audit management
• Thorough understanding of accounting and auditing standards, tax and governance codes, and a track record of ensuring compliance across a complex organisation
• The ideal candidate would come with experience from the Big 4 audit firms
• Previous experience within the Real Estate industry is essential
• Previous experience within the Construction and Facilities Management industry is desirable
• Involvement in Financial and Tax IT systems implementation is desirable
• Exposure to operating in a multi-country environment with adherence to stringent reporting standards
• Experience in a fast‐paced, entrepreneurial environment – with high analytical ability and the desire to help shape a new role and work with agility balancing competing for priorities over time as the role and department evolve
• The ideal candidate will need a high tolerance for ambiguity, changing work priorities and deadlines, and a willingness to take on responsibility prioritize work on multiple projects
• Advanced analytical and organizational skills
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, adept at managing sensitive topics tactfully
